University Project - Contextualised Model
I chose to produce a prop for a film inspired by the situation regarding Covid-19. In the film, the Covid vaccine had to be kept at low temperatures at all times, and was only manufacture by one company, meaning a container was needed capable of transporting the vaccine around the globe. This container had to refrigerate the vaccine as well as hold it securely and protect it from external forces. It had to contain a large quantity of the vaccine, yet be compact and portable for easier transportation. I thought it was important for the container to feature a unique opening mechanisms as well as digital display for battery power and temperature.
I produced renders of my design as well as create a physical prop with working locking mechanism and digital display. The opening mechanism is comprised of an externally threaded cylindrical head that pushes three clips downwards and outwards when turned. In this position, these clips are no longer gripping the bottom section of the PVC, allowing for the top section to be pulled upwards along with the vaccine holder. I chose a spiral layout for the vaccine vials as it gave the best possible quantity for the internal space I had initially chosen.
